Building Community Capacity: from Evidence to Action

Project Background: Annex A

Based out of downtown Montreal, Seniors Action Québec (SAQ) is a relatively new organization that will mobilize English-speaking seniors (generally aged 65-74) in 15 communities located in four regions of the province (Gaspésie, Greater Quebec City, Outaouais and the North Shore). Community-specific profiles outlining the priority needs expressed by seniors in each participating community will be developed. Focus groups will then be held with 230 seniors in these communities and an action plan developed to address the priority need they identify. A project steering committee will be created with the participation of SAQ and regional community organizations serving English-speaking seniors in the four participating regions in order to collaborate in developing action plans responding to local issues in their respective communities . There is currently no network dedicated to seniors' issues in the English-speaking community (ESC) of the Province of Quebec and this project will give English-speaking seniors a collective voice. Entitled "Building Community Capacity: From Evidence to Action", starting April 1, 2015 and ending March 31, 2016, this project will enable seniors to meet, identify critical issues affecting them and create action plans to mobilize their communities to address them. It will also help increase the awareness of English-speaking seniors regarding local, regional and provincial organizations that can provide them with information and resources. This project will strengthen community vitality through the mobilization of its resources around ensuring the well-being of its ESC seniors.
